Comprehensive Palm Fruit Pressing Process Description
Palm oil, nestled within the succulent palm pulp which boasts high moisture and rich lipase content, is best extracted using mature pressing technology. The journey begins with the sterilization and threshing of Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB). Post weighing, FFBs are loaded onto the conveyor via loading ramp, and transported to the vertical sterilizer. Here, FFBs undergo multiple rounds of heating and sterilization to prevent lipase hydrolysis. Sterilized FFBs are then fed to the thresher, where palm fruits are separated from the bunch. Empty bunches are transported outside the factory periodically, with potential reuse as fertilizer. The processed palm fruits proceed to the digester and are subsequently pressed by a special screw press to obtain Crude Palm Oil (CPO). However, the extracted oil contains water and impurities, necessitating clarification through a sand trap tank and a vibrating screen. The clarified CPO is then directed to the clarification station. Meanwhile, the wet fiber cake from the press, containing nuts, is sent to the boiler house for burning.
The wet fiber cake, composed of wet fiber and nuts, contains approximately 6-7% oil and fat along with some water. The initial step involves separating the nut from the fiber. The mixture enters the cake breaker conveyor for cracking. A pneumatic fiber depericarper system then separates most of the fiber, while a polishing drum deals with nuts, residual fiber, and larger impurities. The cleaned nuts are transported to the nut hopper via a pneumatic system, then cracked using a ripple mill. Post-cracking, a cracked mixture separating system segregates most of the shells and kernels. Any remaining kernel-shell mixture is processed in a clay bath separation system, yielding pure kernels (with shell content <6%) that are dried and stored. Dried kernels, with a moisture content of 7% and a capacity ratio of 4%, are collected and sent to the palm kernel oil mill once enough quantity is gathered. Separated shells are stored as spare boiler fuel.
Post-screening and sand trap tank processing, palm oil is transferred to a crude oil tank for heating, followed by pumping to a continuous clarification tank. This process separates purified oil and sludge oil. The purified oil is stored in a pure oil tank, while sludge oil moves to the centrifuge for further separation. The centrifuge-separated oil reenters the continuous clarification tank. The pure oil is then directed to an oil purifier, followed by a vacuum dryer, and finally pumped to the collection tank.
